چکیده

Methods Ten patients with adult-onset GHD and ageand sexmatched controls (n=10) underwent CMR. Patients underwent scans before disease treatment and at twelve months after treatment. Cardiac parameters were calculated and indexed to body surface area (BSA). The comparison between groups was done using Mann-UWhitney test and within the group using Wilcoxon test. The data are presented as median values.

Cardiac magnetic resonance myocardial feature-tracking: the effect of treatment in patients with adult-onset growth hormone deficiency and acromegaly

Background We have previously documented abnormalities in cardiac structure in patients with adult-onset growth hormone deficiency (GHD) and acromegaly which partially resolved during treatment (Dattani et al. 2012, Zemrak et al. 2012). No treatment effect was seen on global measures of cardiac function e.g. left ventricular ejection fraction. The aim of this study was to use quantitative strai...

Characterisation of myocardial structure and function in adult-onset growth hormone deficiency using cardiac magnetic resonance

Growth hormone (GH) can profoundly influence cardiac function. While GH excess causes well-defined cardiac pathology, fewer data are available regarding the more subtle cardiac changes seen in GH deficiency (GHD). This preliminary study uses cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMR) to assess myocardial structure and function in GHD. Ten adult-onset GHD patients underwent CMR, before and after 6...

Metabolic abnormalities in growth hormone deficiency.

Growth hormone has been implicated in the regulation of cardiovascular function and growth hormone deficiency (GHD) has been postulated to be one of the main factors responsible for the increased morbidity and mortality from cardiovascular disease in both young and older patients with childhood- and adulthood-onset GHD. Growth hormone also influences bone turnover and mineral deposition. Subjec...

Pituitary Disorders

Growth hormone deficiency (GHD) in adults is characterized by alterations in body composition, carbohydrate and lipid metabolism, bone mineral density, cardiovascular risk profile, and quality of life. Treatment with GH replacement has been shown to improve many, but not all, of these abnormalities. By contrast, untreated GHD is associated with increased mortality and morbidity that was previou...

Effects of human recombinant growth hormone on exercise capacity, cardiac structure, and cardiac function in patients with adult-onset growth hormone deficiency

Objective Epidemiological studies suggest that adult-onset growth hormone deficiency (AGHD) might increase the risk of death from cardiovascular causes. Methods This was a 6-month double-blind, placebo-controlled, randomised, cross-over trial followed by a 6-month open-label phase. Seventeen patients with AGHD received either recombinant human growth hormone (rGH) (0.4 mg injection daily) or pl...
